About Me
Bernice is a dedicated young musician with a passion for exploring the diverse world of music and the arts. She currently resides in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Canada, where she is studying in a secondary school with a Regional Strings Program.
Bernice’s musical journey began with early piano studies, which laid a strong foundation in musical structure, harmony, and expression. She discovered her passion for the harp at age 11, and it soon became her primary instrument. Over time, she has earned recognition for her technical skill and expressive performances on multiple instruments. She is especially proud of being a National Gold Medalist in the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) harp examinations for Levels 2, 6, and 10. Her creative path also led her to composition from a young age, and she now produces original and rearranged works for harp, violin, and piano.
Concerts and orchestras have always fascinated Bernice, and she is an active member of the Oakville Symphony Orchestra, Oakville Chamber Orchestra, North York Concert Orchestra, and York Symphony Orchestra. Previously, she performed as a harpist and violinist with the Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra (2022 – 2025) and joined the Kindred Spirits Orchestra as harpist for the 2024 – 2025 season. Bernice frequently performs as a soloist and collaborates with other musicians, showcasing her versatility across harp, violin, and piano.
In addition to her orchestral and solo performances, Bernice has participated in numerous competitions and has been recognized with awards and scholarships at regional and international levels. She has been invited to the Young Harpists-Composers Program at the One Harp World (World Harp Congress) 2026 to present her original composition “Horizons of Hope” for violin and harp. Bernice was a Finalist and Honorable Mention at the Hampton Roads Harp Festival Competition (Senior Division) in 2025 in Norfolk, USA, a finalist in the Young Artist’s Harp Competition in 2022 in Chestertown, USA, and a finalist in the 25th American Harp Society National Competition in 2023 in Los Angeles, USA.
Bernice is also committed to giving back to her community and frequently volunteers to perform in long-term care centres, bringing music to audiences who cannot attend concert venues. She also teaches harp and theory to younger students, fostering a love of music in the next generation.
Bernice enjoys telling musical stories through her instruments, highlighting their expressive possibilities and seeking to inspire and connect with her audiences. With the goal of pursuing a career as a professional musician, she continues to refine her performance skills and deepen her knowledge of music theory and composition. She hopes to study at a leading music school and share her love of music with audiences around the world.
